Dial-a-Community
Bus (DACB) were feted as the Best Rural Community
Transport Operator in Britain at a glittering
award ceremony in Manchester on Tuesday 15th March.
General
Manager Mrs Rachel Milne accepted the award on behalf
of the organisation. She
said; “It was an amazing night and I was very proud
to accept the award on behalf of the Trustees, staff and
volunteers of Dial-a-Community Bus”.
“To be the best in Scotland is an enormous honour,
but to then be voted the best in Britain is incredible
and a testament to the efforts of every person in the
organisation. I’m so proud of everyone involved
and so very grateful to them for their support over the
years”.
The
judges were impressed by the steps taken by DACB to sustain
and grow their operation at a time when rural transport
services are declining.
Rachel
is enormously proud of Dial-a-Community Bus’s success
over the last 11 years; “When
the first 5 day a week shopping service and community
group use buses started working in 2000, I don’t
think anyone realised the potential, but it has grown
exponentially over the years and I have no doubt that
it will continue to do so.
The
fact that the judges not only appreciated this growth
but also acknowledged the efforts that we have made to
develop and sustain the organisation over the last 12
to 18 months is really fantastic and makes the hard work
worthwhile.”
