Thank
you!
All of us at DACB would like to say a huge thank you to each
and every one of you for your continued support through what
has been a very difficult year. We could not have done it without
you!
Staff Additions
DACB
would like to extend a warm welcome to some new members of staff,
Barry Evans and Gary Laing
who will be working for DACB social enterprise, DAB Plus C.I.C.
DAB Plus c.i.c operates commercially to create a surplus which
the group hope will, in the long term, reduce the charity’s
dependence on grant funding. This organisation provides training
and other transport services.
Barry
will be developing and promoting the training department of
DAB Plus, while Gary will be training individuals on the various
courses that DAB Plus operates.
Angela
Tyrell has also joined us for a year to take your bookings
and work in administration while Diane and
Riian are off on Maternity leave.
We wish them all the best in their work.
Youth
Philanthropy Initiative - Winners!
The
Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an international
programme designed to develop community leaders of the future
and to raise awareness of the work of grassroots charities.
Ellon
Academy took part in this programme in September through October
and the finals were held in the beginning of November.
Sixth
year pupils were divided into groups and asked to select a charity,
research it and then give a presentation on their selected charity.
Pupils are therefore given a hands-on experience of philanthropy,
highlighting the positive impact they can have on their communities
and providing them with the tools to lead.
The
group representing DACB made it through to the final stage along
with NEEDS Scotland, Somebody Cares trust UK, Inspire, Friends
of Anchor and Choices.
Attending
the final presentation were DACB General Manager Rachel Milne
and DACB senior driver Bill Michie; both of whom were extremely
impressed at the commitment and passion each group had in presenting
their selected charity to the audience.
The
group representing DACB went on to win the competition
to the delight of all staff, and were gifted with a
cheque for £3,000, which will go towards
the running costs of the charity including providing more volunteer
miles for the car scheme.
Retirement
Everyone
at DACB would like to say a huge thank you to Mame Bain,
who decided to retire in November from driving.
Mame
has been a outstanding volunteer, driving for various groups
throughout the years and also helping out staff in the office
when we have had issues with getting drivers.
We
wish you all the best, and hope you remain in touch.
Contributions
to Dial-a-News
If
anyone would like to contribute anything to Dial-a-News, please
get in touch with staff at the office. This can be anything
you find to be of interest such as a joke, story, poem or any
ideas you would like to put to other clients using the service.
