Bag
Packing Day at Marks & Spencer
Grampian
Police Cadets successfully bag packed their way to boosting
Buchan Dial-a-Community Bus’s fundraising for 2008.
The
Police Cadets spent a Saturday in November packing customers
bags at Marks and Spencer’s and today presented a cheque
to Dial-a-Community Bus (DACB) for £1124.32 which was
raised from the event.

Dorothy
Chapman; DACB’s Fundraising Director said, “This
is a real boost for DACB and we really appreciate it”.
She
added,
‘We’re ecstatic to be receiving such a large amount
in the current economic climate and we cannot thank the Police
Cadets enough. Marks and Spencer’s customers were incredibly
generous and we would also like to say a huge thank you to them”.
Rachel
Milne, DACB General Manager spent the day bag packing, together
with PC Anne Jessiman from Grampian Police Cadet Unit and 16
Police Cadets, some of whom have been working alongside DACB
since January this year.
Rachel
said, ‘This is the second time that the Cadets have helped
with the bag packing and we really appreciate all their hard
work and would like to take the opportunity on behalf of the
whole team to say a big thank you for all their support. It
is a long tiring day for everyone and their youth and energy
is more than welcome’.
There
were also some of the new Police Cadet recruits working at the
bag packing event. They will be starting their community placements
with DACB in the New Year and will undertake training with the
charity including MiDAS for cars, MPV training, Passenger Assistant
training and Emergency Evacuation Procedures.
Dial-a-Community
Bus looks forward to working with the new cadets. This will
be the third year Buchan Dial-a-Community Bus will have worked
in partnership with Grampian Police to provide training and
community placements for the cadets. As a result, the young
people will gain invaluable experience working with vulnerable
people from the communities they serve as police officers in
the future.
Rachel
explained the close partnership between Grampian Police and
Buchan Dial-a-Community Bus;
“Volunteer
off duty police officers were the original bus drivers for the
DACB project in the 1990’s and many still drive for the
project’s community use service as and when they can.
As the charity has grown and is continuing to grow, the links
with Grampian Police continue with DACB receiving a lot of help
from the Force’s Road Safety Unit, Training Unit and the
Mintlaw police office as well as many other departments. We
really appreciate this integration and we feel that it is a
superb example of how a statutory and a voluntary organisation
can work together to improve the quality of life for people
in our community.”
