Dial-a-Community
Bus is a community transport charity based in Buchan. They provide
affordable, accessible transport for those people who cannot
access conventional transport means due to age, disability,
rural or social isolation. Their charity offers several different
services for a wide variety of different people, using both
minibus and cars run by both staff and volunteers.
Shopmobility
is one of those many services they provide and is certainly
proving itself one to be proud of. The dedicated, trained,
experienced volunteers of Shopmobility recognised a need
for the service to run some afternoons for those who are
unable to get into town during the morning. They have
offered their own time to open up three afternoons per
week and are keen to encourage more people to take full
advantage of the service. They have also indicated that
they would open outside of usual hours if someone
really needed them, by arrangement.
The
friendly faces currently running the facility are Bob,
Edwin, Lorna Andy and Ted. They would be happy to talk
to anyone who would like more information, so please feel
free to pop in at any time and say “hello”
to them.

Rachel
Milne, General Manager, said “We would like to take this
opportunity to say a big thank you to those volunteers at Shopmobility
who give their own time so freely and generously as do all our
volunteers”. Helen Willis, Operations Supervisor added
“We would also love to hear from anyone interested
in being a volunteer”.
Everyone
is welcome at Shopmobility, young or old, no matter
whether their disability is temporary or permanent. Wheelchairs
and motorised scooters are available to all, to those with long
term disability as well as to those with sport or road accident
injuries. They just ask that those under 16 are accompanied
by and adult. You do not have to be registered disabled and
visitors to the town are as welcome as residents.
